Superpower: Leveraging empathy to build human connections that fuel growth and impact in mission-driven organizations.

With more than 15 years in the social sector — including community foundations, nonprofits, and as a Peace Corps volunteer (Dominican Republic) — Lara Sepanski Pimentel is driven by the Athenian Oath: “We will transmit this city not only not less, but greater, better and more beautiful than it was transmitted to us.”

She finds fulfillment in connecting philanthropists with social impact organizations and has spent much of her career at the intersection of literacy and philanthropy. An agile advocate, she has worked at national, regional, and local levels.

Fluent in Spanish and English, Lara holds a bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University and a master’s in public administration from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University, where she was a Snow Fellow. She lives in Upstate New York with her husband and two children.

My journey in the impact space began when I served in the Dominican Republic in the Peace Corps. After which, I was lucky enough to be hired at my local community foundation and I’ve been committed to the sector ever since.

Outside of work, I’m a mom of two young children, and most of my time is spent with them — baking, playing outside, and enjoying movie nights together. When I was younger, I wanted to be the sports medicine doctor for the NY Knicks, or a babysitter or a hairdresser. While my path took a different turn, that same curiosity and drive have fueled my career, allowing me to build connections and create impact.
